Larman's newest book

Larman's newest book is quite different from what you might expect - but a pleasant surprise nonetheless.

Titled Agile and Iterative Development: A Manager's Guide, this book is an authoritative survey of the most important trends in agile software development.

Most of you will not run out to get this book as it is really aimed specifically at managers. Why such a specific focus? From our perspective it seems that there is a major shift happening in the software development industry, much of it grassroots, toward highly iterative and agile development. Much of this is largely in response to the dismal failure of traditional waterfall models (which Larman carefully documents). Larman, who is employed by an large, international consulting firm named Valtech, is one of many leading object technologists who are attempting to swing the industry as a whole into the newer, agile style of development.

Other leading authors also driving this new trend include Kent Beck, Martin Fowler and Robert C. Martin, whose recent books have been mentioned in this forum. Their books are more recommended for developers, whereas Larman's is aimed more specifically at managers.

Scheduled to be published in August, 2003 by Addison Wesley, Larman's new book could become the well-researched study the software industry is waiting for to establish agile development as the new standard.
