ObjectVenture Releases ObjectAssembler 2.5 Enterprise

ObjectVenture has just released ObjectAssembler 2.5 Enterprise., a visual two-way, pattern-oriented development environment for J2EE applications, with native support for Struts 1.1. ObjectAssembler 2.5 allows developers to construct and modify applications using visual representations of J2EE patterns, components, and assemblies - automating tedious and error-prone implementation tasks.

ObjectAssembler Enterprise supports the creation, extension, and application of software design patterns which promotes object reuse and accelerate the overall software development process. ObjectAssembler, coupled with PCML (Pattern and Component Markup Language), provides architects with a powerful feature to create reusable designs that define objects and their interactions. These designs may then be used to automate the creation of J2EE components and application assemblies. The current support for patterns in ObjectAssembler is the beginning of a revolutionary new way of creating applications via automated pattern-driven development and reusable components.

After looking at some of the demos of Object Assembler from the company's website, I have to admit that I came away very impressed.

ObjectVenture has created a direct competitor to Visual Studio .NET for web-based component development. Imagine a VB-like development environment where you drag and drop components from a palette to a workspace, add attributes to the components via dialog boxes, and add a little bit of code to methods and then the tool does all the work of validating and creating the final assembly.

ObjectAssembler has accomplished this for the J2EE platform. See the demos page for link to the Web and Struts Development with ObjectAssembler. This demo shows how to build a Struts web application using the drag and drop technique popularized by Visual Basic.

In addition, ObjectVenture understands how to build the foundation for open component development. Their PCML, Pattern and Component Markup Language, alllows patterns for component development to be expressed using an XML dialect. While complex, the company has created an excellent specification describing the technology, which is available on their website.

The company also has an impressive list of partners, including Borland and Sun.
