designing applications

Hi all,

I have few basic questions:

1. What are the good design strategies for designing a distibuted application where response time is critical.

2. Are there any basic guidelines/checklist to decide if a framework needs to be devoloped for an application.

3. In a j2ee application, is it a good strategy to have interfaces to all classes i.e. boundary/control/dao/value objects?

Any reference to related articles/case studies/web sites is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
