Latest Modeler feature allows VP-UML users to transfer the shapes from MS Visio into VP-UML. You can use these shapes in any UML diagram as you like.

- Enhanced diagram layout facility
Existing diagram layout facility is strengthened to support larger variety of diagram types. Organic and Circular layout with fully customizable properties are available for smarter and more flexible layout of diagrams.

The Visual Paradigm web site lists IDE integration as a major feature:

VP-UML is integrated with Eclipse/IBM WebSphere®, Borland® JBuilder®, NetBeans IDE/Sun™ ONE, IntelliJ IDEA™, Oracle JDeveloper and BEA WebLogic Workshop™ to support the implementation phase of software development. The transitions from analysis to design and then to implementation are seamlessly integrated within the CASE tool, thus significantly reducing efforts in all stages of the software development life cycle.

How is this integration provided? How does it work in practice? I would be very curious to know.

The Visual Paradigm web site actually has some very excellent product tours, produced using Macromedia Flash, of each of the UML integrations listed in the earlier post. If you want a detailed product tour, these are a must see! Much easier than downloading the product and learning to do this from scratch. Look for the top-level menu item Quick Tour.
