Cool Passed with 86%. Recommendations

My first attempt with ICE simulation test was 50%.
So I have to thank you all for this site.

Questions of the actual test are similar to ICE exam and Whizlab. So no question actually surprised me.

These are the type of questions (but I will not tell you the actual questions)

  • question on how to organize the team's work
  • question on what is most important to do in a critical OOAD project
  • question on the advantage of Use Cases

  • question on relations in a Use Case diagram
  • you have a functional requirement text and you have to find the business rules
  • you have a functional requirement text and you have to find Use Cases

  • questions on layered architecture
  • question on how to organize the packages
  • you have a class diagram and you have to group in packages

  • questions on association class
  • you have an additional requirement and you have to find what to add in the class diagram
  • you have an additional requirement and you have to find what to add in CRCs

  • you have a class diagram and you have to find the class of the objects in a sequence diagram
  • question on activity diagram and multi-threading
  • you have a diagram and you have to give the name of the elements: message, object, iteration

  • questions on Design Pattern (are in Craig's book)
  • questions on Refactoring

...

My preparation

  • Applying UML patterns by Larman 2nd edition ( 2-3 times)
  • Cuellar's notes
  • Fowler's book (2 times)
  • Design Patterns Explained. Shalloway & Trott
  • ICE test + this site for the discussion of the answers
  • Whizlab notes, quizz and test
  • Object Oriented Project Management with UML
  • The Rational Unified Process An Introduction 2nd edition

Also I've already read these books some years ago:

  • Design Patterns Gof4
  • Larman's book 1st edition
  • Refactoring - Fowler
  • Enterprise Java with UML - CT Arrington

About Whizlab :
Notes help me understand what each objective related to.
I used Whizlab test by Objectives. This helped me focus my study on small amount and improve.
What is nice with the test is that you have the explanation why an option is right and also why an option is false.
Also I think for any test you have 2 distinct parts: the understanding and the tests drill.
The understanding you do it with the books and with practical experience.
The drill you do it with tools like Whizlab.
It's difficult to succeed the test without both: understanding + tests drill

Minimum set to succeed quickly IBM 486:

  • Larman's book 2nd edition
  • Whizlab
  • ICE test

OO and process books I most enjoyed :

  • eXtreme Programming explained - Beck
  • Design Patterns Explained. Shalloway & Trott
  • Refactoring - Fowler
  • Larman's books

That was a great compilation. That should give some inspiration to the forum members to further enhance their studies.
